MAYBERRY JUXTAPOSE

Mayberry Juxtapose is about the abandonment of the southside community in Valdosta, GA, and the hopefulness for awareness for the rest of Valdosta. Focusing my research in Valdosta, GA, I first investigated Valdosta's history and current community. Then, I visited the south side area of Valdosta near the overpass and downtown. The farther I drove away from downtown the more diminished the area became. I utilized these images I documented to bring awareness, and spread compassion. ​

Within a block, I photographed images of abandoned buildings while representing the separation and connectedness of both groups. I found that those buildings hold historical value to Valdosta's community, and I believe that that block is the "Gateway to the Southside." The further you drive past those areas the fewer stores you see. This area houses a large demographic of African Americans in Valdosta, GA who choose not to move even though they must travel out to get certain essentials for their homes. ​
